What Are Examples of Agenda Items?

  • 1 min reading time

Agenda items are the specific topics a board will address during a meeting. They typically include standing items that appear at every meeting, action items and discussion items that are specific to that session.

Common examples for a board meeting:

Standing items appear on every agenda regardless of what else is happening. These typically include:

  • Call to order
  • Roll call and establishment of quorum
  • Approval of the previous meeting minutes
  • Officer and committee reports
  • Public comment

Action items vary from meeting to meeting but may include:

  • Motions to vote on (budget approvals, policy changes, elections)
  • New business brought by board members or the public

Informational items require no vote or discussion:

  • Announcements
  • Upcoming events
  • Correspondence received

A well-built agenda labels each item so participants know whether they are there to vote, discuss or just listen. Everybody loves an efficient meeting that starts and ends on time. This is how you get there.
