Weeknight meetings are a special kind of logistical chaos. You're coming straight from work, you're hungry, you're already tired and somehow you're supposed to show up present and prepared. Here's how I make it work without losing my mind.
Before you leave work the day before. Tighten up your to-do list. Priority items at the top, nothing left to chance. Get ahead of any request that might come in last minute early in the day. The goal is to clear the deck before you walk out so you're not mentally still at your desk when you walk into the meeting room. Wherever and whenever you do this is up to you. Just do it before meeting day.
Food is not optional. Depending on your work situation it might be worth taking a shorter lunch or eating at your desk while sorting through emails so you feel good about leaving early. And bring something for an early dinner or a hearty snack. Nothing good has ever come from hangrily casting every vote. This is not negotiable.
The outfit pivot. Meeting night is not the time for the pants that are almost too tight. Trust me on this. Having your circulation cut off for two hours will not bode well for that one board member who already makes your eye twitch. Instead go with a work appropriate blouse or your nicest t-shirt with a blazer and comfortable pants. Then all you have to do is swap your shoes and trade the blazer for a casual jacket on the way. I have a two jacket rotation in my trunk for exactly this reason.
The reusable cup. Always. Hydration is a recurring theme here and I make no apologies for that.
AI for meeting prep. Ten minutes of prep makes a two hour meeting significantly more tolerable. I use AI to review notes, flag agenda items worth paying attention to and draft anything I need to say before I walk in. Game changer.
Show up fed, prepared and in shoes that don't squeeze your baby toe. The rest takes care of itself.
